What was the event brief & objective?
In celebration of Room to Read’s 25th anniversary, we were proud to introduce THE ROOM – a unique event concept that honoured the transformative spaces our global community creates for children to thrive. Far more than a traditional gala, THE ROOM was conceived as an immersive and emotionally resonant experience, embodying the power of education and the environments that foster it.

With over 50 million children impacted by Room to Read’s programs worldwide, THE ROOM symbolised the possibility that exists within every learning space. Spaces that ignite curiosity, support growth, and ultimately change lives. Our objective was to bring this vision to life in an inspiring and memorable way, uniting our supporters in celebration of impact, and inviting them to help build the future.

Why was the Science Museum chosen for this event?
The Science Museum was a natural choice for our London Gala. As a dynamic, interactive hub of learning and discovery, it echoed the very essence of Room to Read’s mission. Its fusion of innovation, education, and wonder aligned very well with our theme, offering a venue that would spark curiosity and connection. The museum’s ethos as a place where knowledge comes alive worked perfectly for a celebration of 25 years of educational transformation.

What sort of experience did you want to create?
We aimed to create an immersive, bold, and creative experience. One that would not only celebrate our legacy but also transport guests into the world of Room to Read. Every element was designed to engage the senses, evoke emotion, and deepen understanding of our work through storytelling, design, and interaction. We wanted attendees to walk away feeling inspired, energised, and part of something truly world changing.

What made you decide on Wonderlab and Flight for your event?
We chose Wonderlab and Flight for their immersive environments and thematic alignment with our message of discovery, innovation, and progress.

  • Wonderlab served as the ideal space for our welcome reception. It’s a highly interactive gallery that naturally encourages exploration – mirroring the curiosity and joy that learning brings to children. The hands-on exhibits sparked conversation and engagement from the moment guests arrived.
  • Flight, with its inspiring backdrop of aviation history and cutting-edge design, hosted our seated dinner and main program. The room’s dramatic ambiance, featuring suspended aircrafts and a sense of forward momentum, beautifully underscored our message of global impact and future vision.

Both spaces allowed us to blend storytelling, networking, fundraising and celebration in a way that felt fresh, energised, and perfectly aligned with our 25-year journey.

Who were your catering and AV partners? Was anything bespoke created for this event?
We were proud to partner with Bubble Food for catering and Equip for AV and production, both of whom went above and beyond to bring THE ROOM to life.

Bubble Food designed a bespoke menu that was not only beautifully presented but deeply connected to our event theme of learning and discovery. Creative touches included edible paper airplanes, and a standout starter titled “Newton’s Apple”, echoing both curiosity and innovation. Every course was thoughtfully crafted to reflect the spirit of education and imagination, creating a sensory experience that was as meaningful as it was delicious.

On the production side, Equip delivered a seamless and dynamic build with exceptional professionalism. Their work included a full stage and band setup, a custom printed backdrop, elegant lighting design, and a striking red carpet entrance, all executed swiftly and with an acute eye for detail. The team truly transformed the space, creating an immersive and polished environment that supported the flow and storytelling of the evening.

The success of this event was a direct result of the dedication, creativity, and excellence these two teams brought to the table. We’re incredibly grateful to have had them as partners.

What feedback did you receive from guests?
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many remarked on how emotionally connected they felt to the cause and how the environment deepened their understanding of Room to Read’s mission. The combination of venue, content, and atmosphere created a powerful sense of unity and inspiration.

Client testimonial:
“As the planners behind this special milestone event, it was an honour to bring Room to Read’s mission to life through THE ROOM. Our goal was to create an evening that wasn’t just beautiful, but meaningful, immersive, and aligned with our global impact. The Science Museum offered the perfect backdrop, and through collaboration with our incredible partners, we created a night that not only celebrated the past 25 years, but boldly looked ahead to what’s next. The feedback from our CEO Dr. Geetha Murali, UK Regional Board and wonderful guests affirmed that we struck the right balance between heart, creativity, and purpose.”
