Chief of the Air Staff’s RAF100 Reception

This year, 2018, marks a centenary of the Royal Air Force (RAF100). To celebrate RAF100, special events are being organised locally, regionally and nationally from April – November with the aim to ‘Commemorate, Celebrate, Inspire’.

The Science Museum was the chosen venue to celebrate the ‘Chief of the Air Staff’s RAF100 Reception’. The RAF Trust Enterprises (RAFCTE) ran the event for 350 guests who had been involved in the RAF100 celebrations taking place at Buckingham Palace earlier that day.

Guests arrived at the Science Museum and made their way to our spectacular Making the Modern World gallery. The gallery itself is embedded with objects which represent developments in technology, science and medicine, and is indeed home to one of the RAF’s Standard training machines, the Avro 504K Biplane (1918).

After the wonderful Food by Dish team treated guests to a selection of canapes and refreshments, guests were then welcomed to our Flight gallery where they were invited to explore exhibits from the pioneer days of aviation. Expert AV Production was provided by the fantastic Hawthorn.

RAFCTE’s Guest Management Executive Kate Whinney said:

“We were after a venue that fitted with the RAF100 theme of ‘Commemorate, Celebrate, Inspire’. The Science Museum’s Making the Modern World Gallery ticked all these boxes. We would not hesitate in using the Science Museum again for an event. The in-house team are enthusiastic, helpful, and most importantly – knowledgeable about large scale events. It was a great experience from start to finish”.
