On 28 May 2019, we welcomed Tim Peake to officially unveil his Soyuz Capsule in a new permanent display in our Exploring Space gallery, launching our museum-wide Summer of Space programme to mark 50 years since the Apollo Moon missions.
Soyuz TMA-19M is the first flown human rated spacecraft in the Science Museum Group collection and while on a 20-month national tour presented by Samsung and Science Museum Group, the Spacecraft has been visited by over 1.3 million people to date.
One of our most popular galleries, Exploring Space is available for evening hire, enabling guests to get up close and personal with Tim Peake’s Spacecraft for dinner or drinks receptions and enjoy the iconic exhibition. Making the Modern World is also home to a unique exhibit; the original Apollo 10 command module simulator console, a key object in NASA’s contribution to the space race and one which has never been seen in the UK before.
Jodie Guilford, Business Development & Marketing Manager at the Science Museum, said: “We are so excited to welcome Tim Peake’s Soyuz Capsule as a permanent exhibit in Exploring Space, following what has been an incredible tour around the UK. We are fortunate to have an ever-evolving offering at our fingertips and hosting such an iconic exhibition will give our clients the opportunity to deliver that all-important one-of-a-kind experience for attendees – in a truly inspiring setting!”
Exploring Space can accommodate 300 for a drinks reception or 180 for dinner and Making the Modern World can accommodate 750 for a drinks reception or 350 for dinner.
