A Brand New Venue Coming in 2019

We are delighted to announce that we will be launching a brand new multi-functional events space January 2019.

The yet unnamed venue has been four years in the planning and will further enhance our already impressive events offering, while providing a venue that meets the ever-evolving demands of the industry.

The new events space is situated on levels four and five of the Science Museum and will be available for both daytime and evening hire for capacities of up to 400 for dinners and conferences and 450 for receptions. One of the unique features will be a panoramic window offering stunning views of the City and an abundance of natural daylight, a key element in ensuring a productive meeting or conference experience.

This, along with many other striking and innovative design features are the work of London-based, RIBA-registered architects, Mary Duggan Architects. Mary Duggan says: “We are delighted to be working on this project for a world-renowned institution. The project design is intended to reflect the ethos of the museum and provide an adaptable interior to accommodate a diverse range of events, but one with a clear identity.”

As a first for the Science Museum, the new venue will be a dedicated events space capable of hosting all manner of creative events, from daytime conferences, product launches, and lunches to evening drinks, receptions and dinners. It can also be used in conjunction with our innovative and ground-breaking galleries for an end-to-end solution.

Jonathan Newby, Deputy Director of the Museum says: “This project will not only enable us to reach new segments of the events industry but it will also help the Science Museum Group to deliver its very ambitious development plans and maintain its position as a world-leading cultural organisation. With the addition of these stunning and flexible new events spaces to our already iconic object-rich galleries and hands-on offers, the Science Museum can ensure our events guests will have as unforgettable and inspiring an experience as our visitors.”

Following a competitive tender process, we have appointed White Light as our exclusive production partner for the new space. This partnership will ensure we lead the way in terms of AV and production capabilities. The museum team are also currently in the process of tendering for the catering contract, which will be announced in due course

Ben Lheureux, Head of Catering & Events at the Science Museum, says: “We are thrilled to reveal the plans for our brand new, dedicated events space, which is due to open for hire from January 2019. We recognise the importance of investing in and advancing our offer to ensure we continue to meet the needs of the ever-evolving industry, which is why we are excited to bring this plan to fruition.

“This new venue is being built in response to the huge demand from companies and associations to hold daytime events at the museum. With such a wide variety of subjects and industries represented (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) and with an ethos of innovation and inspiring futures, it’s the ideal platform to host an engaging event or launch a brand.

Ben continues: “One of the main objectives behind this space is to create something that the industry wants, as such we will shortly be commencing a number of focus groups with key influencers to help steer the direction of the events space and ensure it really hits the mark.”
